Carlit, an Alternative Success Story to Tourism in the Pyrenees

The manager of Carlit, Xavier Espuña, participated in the “Sports, Health and Food: New Drivers for the Pyrenean Economy” event in Bourgmadame on Tuesday 26 April.

The event, entitled “Sports, Health and Food: New Drivers for the Pyrenean Economy”, was part of the Pyrenees Business Summit meetings which explore alternative economic activity in the Pyrenees to reduce the dependence on tourism.

Espuña highlighted that Carlit has worked on its brand strategy to partner with the region of Cerdanya and become a Catalonia-wide ambassador in recent years. He added that everything at Carlit is based on three cornerstones: Territory (Cerdanya), tradition (traditional recipes) and innovation (making age-old traditional dishes suitable for new uses and consumer habits, such as making them microwavable).

With a speech entitled “David against Goliath from Cerdanya”, the manager of Carlit concluded that not only is it possible to fight back against food giants and break into major food supply chains from Cerdanya, but that it is also very worthwhile.
